Just a few days away, free music and carny food, a cherished summer tradition. Friday night Motet covering the Talking Heads will be the show to see! Can’t wait!
~FIBArk 2011~
14 05 2011FIBArk 2011 is just a month away. That’s ‘First In Boating on the Arkansas,’ for those of you who may be unfamiliar. This is a several day long festival in Salida that celebrates, of course, boating! There are tons of events, wet and dry, the best being three nights of FREE music, that’s right FREE music, right downtown by the river. I’m most excited for the March Fourth Marching Band, very hard to describe but something between Sgt. Pepper and the Moulin Rouge mixed with stilts and moustaches. Juno What! is also playing, a band I saw in Breckenridge years ago and was quite impressed by. It consists of a couple of guys from The Motet and is a dance your face off kinda party! Can’t wait, check out the link and see you guys there!
P.S. It’s sponsored by New Belgium

Salida 3rd Grade Trip
12 05 2011We woke up this Thursday morning to find that there was still snow on the ground from the day before. The day after the biggest snow of the year, and one of the only days this winter where the snow sat on the ground for more than a 24 hour period. I had gotten several of my friends, as well as myself of course to volunteer for another buddy to take the Salida Elementary school 3rd grade class rafting. Needless to say it was rather difficult to rally everyone considering the snow in the AM as well as the unpaid class II nature of the trip.
With some prodding and poking, coffee infusing, I got them in the car and off we went to Stone Bridge to meet up with the trip. It was damn cold down by the river but after pumping boats the sun started to poke through, 70 eight year old’s showed up just burning with excitement and it was on.
The weather stayed nice and by the end of the afternoon it was one of those feel-good trips you just can’t deny. Hearing “Best field trip ever,” or “this is so cool!” even sweetens the saltiest of raft guides. After the trip was over we all cracked beers and laughed in the sun; it felt like summer is actually starting.

My crazy crew.
