Pimp ‘N Ho Rodeo 2012

4 06 2012

Once again CKS and NRS sponsered the pre Disco Night, Pimp N’ Ho raft rodeo in the downtown Buena Vista playpark. This year Margo, Kathryn, Kelly and I got after it with a superhero theme and a kick-ass attitude. The play hole was considerably lower and definitely a little easier to stay in. We tried a couple different strategies including back-loading and ‘cafe’ style. We spun, we flipped and we got after it. Once again however we were just too gangster for the competition and the judges gave us second place.

Gettin’ it with the back-load, we flipped shortly after :)

That’s my leg and arm and true colors, USA!

Cattle Drive at the Put-in?

18 08 2011

This was a first for sure today. We ran smack into a cattle drive on the way to the put-in for the Brown’s Full-Day. Awesome, I heart Colorado.

Full-on road block

Cattle drive, cowboys, blue heelers; it had it all

Yeah Bob, keep it straight

PIMP N’ HO RAFT RODEO 2011

10 06 2011

So these photos have started to surface so I’ll put them up. Colorado Kayak Supply and the Lariat Bar and Grill sponser a raft rodeo in the Buena Vista play-park every year. I was lucky enough to be the ‘pimp’ and guide my boat full of lady friends in this event. Points are scored for looking good, costumes and of course, carnage! We got second this year but of course we were first in our opinions!

Surfing that hole!

Getting in there!

I'm going for the dry flip (the squirrel move). I didn't make it, haha!

Biggest Snow of the Year in BV

11 05 2011

Some friends and I planned to try to get an early AM run in on the Numbers but I looked outside, this May 11 morning, and voila, about 3-4 inches of heavy wet spring snow. From there it has continued to snow all day and now is officially the snowiest day of the year in Buena Vista proper. My roommate, a rafter as well, said it best this moring, “We really don’t need this snow,” refering to the snowpack and the water situation for the summer. I spoke to a couple BV folks yesterday about 1995. In that year there were several large snow storms though even the end of June. These storms cooled off the melt in the mountains and replaced a lot of the snowpack which just extended the high water longer and longer throughout the summer. Cross your fingers for us this year!

Collegiate Peaks Music Festival

10 05 2011

I’m so excited for the Collegiate Peaks Music Festival here in Buena Vista this summer (July 28th-30th)! Keller Williams will be headlining backed up by Drew Emmitt, The Motet and Elephant Revival! Check out this link to see the full line-up and buy tickets online. A full weekend of music, rafting, beer drinking and sunshine; it doesn’t get much better than that!
